There’s nothing quite like staying in and cozying up at home. On some days, especially when it's cool and drizzling outside, lounging with a warm drink in your hand while watching your favorite show is all you want to do. For days like these, low-effort/high-reward snacks are a must—think no-fuss, easy-to-put-together-but-deliciously-satisfying snacks to make at home.
Mezze platter
Turn veggies and fruits into a quick yet impressive homemade snack by making a mezze platter—an assortment of Mediterranean light snacks or appetizers meant for sharing.
Building your platter really depends on your preference, but to get you started, here are some basic ingredients you may want to add in:
- Vegetables: Make it fun and vibrant by adding in colorful veggies good for dipping. Aside from fresh cucumbers and radish, other veggies like carrots are also a great addition. You may also opt for grilled or roasted variants like roasted eggplants or Grilled Zucchini.
- Fruits: For fruits, cherry tomatoes, black and green olives, and dried apricots are good picks. These can be easily switched with dates or figs if you prefer them, or add in fresh fruits like grapes.
- Dips and spreads: A mezze platter is not complete without a good dip or spread. For a fresh and earthy flavor, we recommend a good Hummus Spread, or if you’re one to love rich and smoky flavors, Muhammara Dip is a must-try.
- Bread: Finish off your mezze platter by serving it with some flatbread perfect for scooping up dips an accoutrements: laffa bread or regular pita works well. Crackers can also do wonders if you want some added texture.
A Mezze platter is an easy snack to prepare at home, whether for enjoying by yourself or serving to your friends—it’s delicious, hearty, and there will be no piles of pots and pans to clean up after, a win!
Cookie sandwich
Sometimes, fun snacks can be born out of whatever’s left in the fridge and a little bit of creativity. Leftover fruits, ice cream, and biscuits can be reinvented into exciting new desserts.
Make use of the opened bags of biscuits or cookies from your pantry (Vermeiren Traditional Biscuits, or Fancypants Smores Cookies work great here), and arrange them in a single layer with the back facing up. Scoop on some leftover ice cream and top with leftover fruits; stack with another cookie and your cookie sandwich is ready!
You can also substitute the ice cream for a dollop of whipped cream. Mix and match your ingredients to make different cookie sandwich variants—we sandwiched a scoop of Bulla Creamy Choc Chip and topped it off with blueberries and strawberries for a chocolate-berry flavor profile.
Canapé
If you want simple finger food but with all the right flavors, a canapé is an easy homemade snack that doesn’t sacrifice on taste. Just like the other mix-and match snacks above, there’s really no limit when making your canapé. You can go healthy and toss in some greens, or go wild and make it both sweet and savory. You can even make one for every flavor craving.
A good canape starts with a good base: a slice of whole-wheat bread, a cracker, or, in our case, a baguette. Then, decide on your toppings.
- Wholesome
Who said healthy snacks can’t taste good? Spread a good chunk of Egg Salad Spread on your base, then top it off with slices of juicy tomatoes. If you want some meat in your snack, we suggest switching to a Chicken Salad Spread and topping it off with cucumbers for a textural contrast.
- Indulgent
For something indulgent, a cheese and prosciutto combo will not fail your taste buds. Place a slice of brie on your base, add some melt-in-your-mouth prosciutto, then add a small drizzle of honey for that added sweetness. For a nutty and herby taste, you’ll never go wrong with Caprese flavors made easy: Creamy Pesto Spread topped with slices of mozzarella and tomatoes.
